Social Media Bullying Affecting Teens

Conflict in High School is not an abnormal topic, but bullying and teens speaking up for themselves is not heard of in most cases. The news only picks up on cases that end tragically, in suicide, or other drastic measures related.

Earlier this year, an incident occurred in NEW core where a student spread a picture about another student, using a social media platform called Snapchat, and the bully was talking bad about the victim. The victim happened to see the photo and her and her mother brought it to the attention of the teachers. The teachers were surprised and Marika Neto decided to take charge. Neto used a method that was currently being used in classrooms all around, called a restorative circle. Neto brought in all the students she thought were involved and the victim shared her side of the story, as the others listened. It was a learning point for both the victim and the bully in this situation and they both learned from it.

Although you don't hear about these stories often, because they "do not matter" as much as suicide stories and big headlines about teen bullying does, this is an example of the smaller acts of bullying that happens everyday and nobody speaks up about, except in this case, we had a victim willing to speak up for herself and tell us more about her experience.
